As far as carefree and flowering go, a few come to mind. Consider trumpet vine (Campsis), honeysuckle (Lonicera) or sweet autumn clematis (Clematis paniculata). Those are all very hardy.

I hope that this helps

Try morning Glories!! I live in Kansas and they blooming! they are easy to care for ( I DO NOT have a green thumb) and they will attach and grow on lattice or fences easily., Good luck!

My spelling isn’t so good, but clamatis. Comes in various colors and grows well. I live in East Central Illinois, Coles County and all I do is cut it back in the Fall and it comes back every time. Some don’t cut it back (clear to the ground) and all of the previous years dead growth is there. Looks real bad to me, different things for different folks.

Campsis (trumpet vine) is my favorite, but I like tropical looking vines.

Yes, Clematis is wonderful! It comes back every year and has beautiful flowers and vines. I cut mine back every year, sometimes to about 6 inches and sometimes by only 50%. Remember that they love the sun, but the roots like shade, so mulch the roots. I have never had problems with insets (bad) or fungus in the 11 years that I’ve lived here … and they lived here before I did.
